2 Rationale

In this module we will get acquainted with the planning of an e-learning curriculum, how to plan and document the steps of creating an interactive multimedia. We will know what a synopsis is and how to prepare it. We will learn what a storyboard is and how to write it. Moreover we will take a look at the media elements of an e-learning stuff, how to create and edit them. We will be familiar with web 2.0 tools, too.

3 Learning objectives

All the applied tools (learning elements, course components, methods, coaching) employed in the delivery of the module, should help participants to achieve the stated Learning Objectives (LOs). The teaching effectiveness of the instructors’ will be evaluated against the objectives given here. The description of module LOs should use a standard taxonomy within a course. The LOs are to:

3.1 Basic skills to use applications for pedagogical aims (Word, Excel, Audacity, Windows Movie Maker, Paint, Gimp)
3.2 Basic skills to integrate elements and publish e-learning material (PowerPoint, FCK editor)
3.3 Basic skills to select tools for publishing educational content online

4 Learning outcomes

The participants will be able to:

6 Assignments

This list is the Activities, Tests, Projects, and Collaboration that participants are expected to fulfill. The weight within the module is used to calculate the overall performance level of the participant.

6.1. TC03A01 - Collaboration online - 20 credits
An Activity in Collaboration (discussion forums, chat, communication with tutors, e-mail, messages) in a given theme, the results of which are summarized in an student assignment.

6.2. TC03A02 - E-learning elements - 15 credits
Select or create e-learning elements, describe with metadata and store in Moodle.

6.3. TC03A03 - Integration - 15 credits
Design e-learning material and integrate the elements in a presentation or in a web page.

6.4 TC03A04 - Synopsis - 20 credits

7 Assessment methodology

7.1 Methods: the assessment will be based on the evaluation of the assignments and the level reached in the online test. The activities and the assignments will be evaluated by the tutor.
7.2 Certificate: "Tenegen e-teacher" - certificate issued by the Tenegen Consortium
7.3 Threshold for success: <60%
7.4 Successfully completed: 60%-80%
7.5 Excellently completed: >80%

8 Duration of module and expected working time

The module lasts for 4-6 weeks. The estimated working time needed to fulfill the requirements 6-8 hours per week, - including collaboration time and preparing assignments. This may vary according the prior experiences and the individual learning path.

10 Coaching

10.1. Instructor

The learning activities will be supervised by one Instructor. The instructor will be the author of the module, and she/he is responsible for the professional correctness. She/he will:

  • give support for the activities of the tutors;
  • supervise and evaluate all activities going on during the course;
  • create a summary report of the performance based on the tutors report and the feedback of participants.

10.2. Tutor

The learning activities will be supported by the Tutors. One tutor will guide the work of maximum 8 participants.

The tutor will help the participants to fulfill individual tasks, and undertake the assessment of their performances. She/he should facilitate collaborations and learning activities. The tutor does not teach, but:

  • follows the learning process of participants, keeping contact with participants and with the instructor;
  • gives advice regarding learning methods;
  • organises and helps in project work;
  • suggests further web-materials if needed, and evaluates the assignments;
  • prepares an evaluation report for the instructor at the end of the module.

10.3. LMS administrator

The LMS Administrator is responsible for the correct operation of the LMS, and helps to solve technical problems with networking and communication (checking every 8 hours of the day).

10.4. Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for administrative issues, including contracts (obligatory in Hungary for providers of adult education), certificates, personal problems (postponements, dropout, etc.).

11 Delivery methods, supporting materials

11.1. LMS

The learning environment for the module will be the Moodle 1.9 Learning Managment System.

11.2. Tutor guide

The Tenegen Tutor Guide contains a detailed list of all responsibilities, and helps participants with report templates.

11.3. Study Guide

The Tenegen Study Guide helps participants to take their first step in the learning environment, helps them to find content, and helps with use of the collaboration tools.

11.4. Content

All learning material, definition of assignments, tests, glossaries, and feedback will be available through the LMS.

12 Equipments and materials required for module realization

Every participants should have

12.1 an e-mail address and Internet access
12.2 a workstation of at least 1,8 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB HDD, 48xCD-ROM
12.3 a broadband Internet connection
12.4 a minimum software requirement for the participants’ workstation Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Audacity, Gimp
12.5 tools for web-conferencing, specifically web camera and microphone

13 Other Module components

13.1 Learning instructions. These are a detailed description of the components (learning outcomes, tools, descriptions of assignentsand collaboration methods etc.) for each unit,with clear dependencies among the course elements

13.2 TCF Tenegen Competency Framework. This ensures the integrity and coherency of the course, and is a collection of learning objectives and outcomes – structured by modules/units -- to show the dependencies (and redundancies) within the course.

14 Quality management

The methods and processes employed to evaluate the results during, and at the and of, the module are used to compare the original aims (what we intended) and learning objectives with has been realized (what we get).

14.1 Methods to collect data

  1. Self assessment at the beginning and at the end of the units
  2. Feedback for module evaluation to measure the satisfaction of the participants
  3. Statistics provided by the LMS (number of posts, activities, etc.)

14.2. The methods of validation

Validation report (before the start of the module) to summarize the results of the reviews (1).

14.3. The methods of verification

Verification report (at the and of the module) to elaborate the results coming from the collected data (1,2,3), and to formulate the suggestions for modifications.
