TC05A03 - Repositories

Opened: Friday, 9 April 2010, 10:20 AM
Due: Thursday, 22 April 2010, 11:55 PM
Assignment id: TC05A03

1. Assignment

Assessment of repositories.

2. Content requirements

a) Repositories
All over the world more and more repositories can be accessed where LOs are partially free, or can be accessed partially against payment. What sort of repositories are you familiar with? Are there any which you often visit? Choose one and write about it: Is it easy to search through? Can resources be accessed (if you would like to change something because of your pedagogical aim)?

b) Creative Commons
What do you think about "copyleft" licences? Is there a chance for these to spread amongst teachers? Can you imagine there are others in your school who would be willing to create a common, institutional curriculum repository? Would it make additional demands on students?
c) Metadata or labels?
Standards of metadata for describing LOs are "politely said" too detailed, "less politely" they are extremely detailed. They look like a bit of a library catalogue. At the same time making a free catalogue of contents on the Internet is increasing, it is so called labelling. Which do you think will be the solution in the future?

3. Method

a) Write down in your learning diary your thoughts about the questions and here give the hyperlink to your blog.

b) Put the link of your chosen online repository into the TeNeGEN bookmarks. Its path:

http://delicious.com/Tenegen

username: tenegen, password: netgen555

4. Evaluation

The assignment will be evaluated by your tutor. A maximum 20 credits can be attained.
